Australia’s Rockfire has made a noteworthy discovery in Greece’s mining sector, revealing a polymetallic deposit in Molaoi. The find, encompassing zinc, lead, and germanium, holds significance for Europe’s energy transition and high-tech industries.

The discovery aligns with Europe’s strategic autonomy goals in critical raw materials, aiming to decrease reliance on imports, particularly from China. American investors and industry analysts are closely monitoring this development, highlighting Greece’s potential role in reshaping the global supply chain for essential raw materials.

The Greek Ministry of Environment and Energy (YPEN) has expedited exploration programs for additional sites, contributing to the European “Critical Raw Materials” strategy. YPEN plans to launch competitions in 2024 for areas like Keramos and Kimmeria Xanthi, focusing on antimony, copper, and bismuth exploration. Simultaneously, Greek company Mytilineos gains recognition as a key player, drawing EU attention for its capacity to produce gallium, a crucial metal for the energy transition.
