Algeria is set to initiate a project aimed at enhancing its phosphate production to 10 million tonnes annually, as confirmed by Rashid Hachichi, the head of the state oil operator Sonatrach Company.

Hachichi disclosed that a feasibility study is currently in progress for the development of the mine located in the Northeastern Tebessa province.

“We are nearing completion of the study, and the project implementation will commence shortly,” stated Hachichi, as reported by Elkhabar and other newspapers on Thursday.

He further elaborated that the mine, discovered in 1976, harbors phosphate reserves exceeding 2.8 billion tonnes.
