Serbian copper mining and smelting company RTB Bor has said it expects to quintuple the output of its Majdanpek open pit copper mine in 2017, as a result of investments made into an upgrade of excavation machinery.
The company produced 1.57 million tonnes of copper ore and 2.7 million tonnes of tailings in November, which is the highest monthly result in the last 10 years, RTB Bor said in its corporate newsletter Kolektiv on Friday.
A total of 4,000 tonnes of copper concentrate were produced in November.
The production of copper concentrate at the Veliki Krivelj mine stood at 26,800 tonnes in the first 11 months of 2017, which is 7% above plan, RTB Bor said.
RTB Bor operates the Majdanpek, Veliki Krivelj and Cerovo open pit mines, as well as the Jama underground mine. Majdanpek has estimated reserves of 619.5 million tonnes of ore grading 0.33% copper, one of the largest in Serbia.
