Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources, Bandar Al-Khorayef, recently visited Vale’s Carajas mines in the Brazilian Amazon, accompanied by Deputy Minister Eng. Khaled Al-Mudaifer and other industry leaders.
During the visit, Al-Khorayef was introduced to Vale’s advanced mining technologies, including remote mine management systems and driverless trucks used for transporting materials. The discussions also covered Vale’s expertise in balancing mining activities with rainforest preservation and community engagement.
Vale, a leading global iron ore producer, shared insights on its sustainable practices and expansion plans in Saudi Arabia. The company is interested in enhancing collaboration with Saudi Arabia to increase production at Carajas, which exceeds 300 million tons of iron ore annually.
This visit forms part of Al-Khorayef’s broader tour of Brazil and Chile to strengthen bilateral relations and attract investment to Saudi Arabia’s industrial and mining sectors. Saudi Arabia currently provides 16% of Brazil’s phosphate fertilizer needs through Maaden Company, and Vale is expanding its partnership with Saudi Arabia, including a joint venture investment and a new iron pellet factory in Ras Al Khair Industrial City with an SR4 billion investment.
