Grit Metals Corp. has announced the results from its inaugural reconnaissance gold exploration campaign in the Central Lapland Greenstone Belt (CLGB) of Northern Finland, revealing promising findings.

Key highlights:

  • The company identified widespread anomalous gold and copper mineralization over a 25 km stretch along major faults, domain boundaries, and unconformities, considered favorable zones for gold deposits.
  • A total of 466 rock chip grab samples were collected and assayed by ALS Laboratories. Of these, 40 samples assayed between 0.1 to 2.84 g/t gold and 0.1% to 1.67% copper.
  • Notably, no prior gold exploration or known gold occurrences were documented in this area before Grit’s work.
  • Preliminary results indicate the potential for gold mineralization in the region, proving the concept that the area may host gold deposits.

The two-month reconnaissance campaign was conducted during the summer and fall of 2024, focusing on a 30 km long corridor of faults and other geological features with high gold potential. This area is positioned near the more active central portion of the CLGB, which hosts significant gold deposits, including the 4.1-million ounce Ikkari deposit owned by Rupert Resources.

Grit Metals’ exploration strategy focused on prospecting areas interpreted as favorable for gold mineralization, particularly faults and geological contacts. The 41,000-hectare property saw the collection of 466 rock samples, with 40 samples returning gold assays greater than 0.10 g/t, including 11 samples over 0.5 g/t, and five exceeding 1.00 g/t up to a maximum of 2.84 g/t gold.

Additionally, 71 samples showed copper mineralization above 0.05% (500 ppm), with a maximum of 1.67% copper. A strong correlation between gold and copper was observed, which is typical of many gold deposits in the CLGB. In some cases, copper may serve as a proxy and guide for gold mineralization.

The belt’s potential is further evidenced by significant interest from major mining companies, including Rupert Resources’ recent offer to acquire B2Gold’s 70% stake in a joint venture with Aurion Resources, adjacent to Rupert’s Ikkari deposit.

Jeremy Poirier, CEO of Grit Metals, expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating that the exploration team, under the leadership of Mike Basha, Grit’s VP of Exploration, is well-positioned to unlock the potential of their Northern Finland portfolio.

In addition to its gold exploration efforts, Grit Metals is also focusing on lithium, cesium and tantalum in central Finland, where it holds exploration licenses near the Keliber mine, set to begin production in late 2025.
