French mining company Eramet SA is seeking to acquire additional nickel mining permits in Indonesia, according to the Jakarta Post, citing a senior company official.

Bruno Faour, director of Eramet’s Indonesia unit, revealed that the company is interested in mining nickel on the island of Sulawesi. He emphasized that the new sites should be located near potential hydropower sources to support the operations.

Eramet operates one of the largest nickel mines globally on Halmahera Island in North Maluku province, in partnership with China’s Tsingshan Holdings Group.
